Beginners Lessons
BBKA Examinations.
Members are encouraged to take the BBKA Basic Assessment. We offer training days and apiary practice to study for this practical examination, along with further qualifications.
Beginners Training
This usually lasts a minimum of four consecutive weekends, starting at around midday on Sunday, and covering both urban and rural environments.
We have also successfully helped some of our junior members to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
Booking the Training
If you are interested please contact us to book a place. You will be given details of locations for each session.
Training Requirements
- In addition to the usual training requirements, such as writing materials and pens, etc, you will be required to bring specific bee protection equipment.
- Bee Suit: purchase a cheap bee suit online rather than an expensive suit to start with. You will be able to have a chance to see all of the different types and styles later in the year and make a decision then based on what you find suits you best.
- Wellingtons or high boots.
- Thin nitrile or washing up gloves. The Club discourages the use of leather gloves as they prevent you from being able to feel what you are touching and this presents difficulties when handling bees.
